Where to sleep in the Loire valley
Many visitors and tourists ask me where they can stay while travelling in this part of the Loire Valley. Here is a selection of good addresses, whose owners I know. They are all professionals of the tourist industry, so you can be sure that you will be greeted with a warm welcome and that the services offered are impeccable. The first few places listed are our favourites. You will then find some B&Bs, gîtes (that is to say a full house to rent), hotels and campsites. We wish you a wonderful stay in the Loire Valley!

in Chançay (10 minutes from Amboise, 20 minutes from Tours)
It is a warm welcome that awaits you at Claudine's place, located just outside the village of Chançay. Her house is an old farm that was restored and turned a few years ago into a B&B.
It offers 3 bedrooms, a swimming-pool, a large park to stroll around and to allow you to relax while enjoying all the treasures of Touraine and the Loire Valley.
Shall you book a wine tour with Myriam, you will be able to walk to the winery , as it is only a 10 minutes' walk from Claudine's home. No driving! A good opportunity to fully enjoy the wine tasting!
in Vernou-sur-Brenne (15 mn from Tours, 15 mn from Amboise)
A lovely house with a lovely host! Gwenn's house - an old 17th-century mill - is located in the village of Vernou-sur-Brenne, which is one of the 8 villages where Vouvray wines are produced. It is only a 2 minutes's walk to go to the center of the village where you can find all sorts of shops (2 bakers', 2 charcuteries, a grocer's, a butcher's, a flower shop...) and 2 cafés. The local food served during the wine tours and tastings offered by Myriam mostly come from the shops found in the village. Gwenn is perfectly knowledgeable about all the attractions in the area and she will be happy to give you advice for you to enjoy a perfect stay in the Loire Valley. in Vouvray (10 minutes from Tours)
Monique Marboeuf will be your host if you decide to stay in this traditional limestone house located near the centre of Vouvray. Part of the house is dug in the rock - troglodytes are the traditional habitat in this area of the Loire Valley. Monique's house is a winemaker's house, it was built in the 16th century. The decoration of the 3 bedrooms is inspired by foreign destinations: India, Africa and Eastern Europe. This B&B is ideally located if you wish to discover the vineyard of Vouvray and the wine cellars, the city of Tours and the chateaux of the Loire Valley.
in Saint Avertin (10 minutes from Tours)
Véronique is a former English teacher who know runs this lovely B&B with her husband. The 3 rooms they offer you to book are located in a former 18th-century farmer and winegrower's house,
built with local limestone (called 'tuffeau' in French).

At the heart of the Vouvray vineyard
Some more original housing in our little village of Chançay, at the heart of the Vouvray vineyard! Claire and Jean-Marie Lehoreau own 5 bedrooms located next to their house but they also offer their guests the possibility to sleep in a tree house and in a traditional gypsy caravan. A private bathroom and a small kitchen are there to provide all the comfort you may look for during your stay in the Loire Valley.

Jean-Louis welcomes you to this former 19th-century post-house located at the heart of Vernou-sur-Brenne, which is one of the 8 villages where Vouvray wines are produced. Troglodyte apartments 'La Rochère'
in Noizay (15 mn from Amboise)
Looking for a unique and original stay in the Loire Valley? Why not stay in a troglodyte? Jérôme and Marie-Aymée are the owners of these 2 apartments dug in the rock, and they live themselves in a cave. They will be happy to share their experience and have you discover this traditional habitat, which was very common among the vinegrowers' and winemakers' population until the beginning of the 20th century. Their two flats dug in the limestone are nicely decorated and offer all 21st-century comfort. They are located in a lovely hamlet called La Rochère, from which you will be able to walk to the vineyard or along the limestone cliffs to enjoy the view over the Loire valley or the nice houses of Noizay. Chambres d'hôtes Le Cactus Bleu
In the heart of the village of Reugny, Carine and her husband own a beautiful traditional house which
they turn into both a BnB and an art gallery. The peaceful garden is
equipped with a jacuzzi (additional charge, on reservation). Some evenings, it is possible to enjoy dinners cooked by the hosts. A
small shop will allow you to buy some souvenirs made by local craftsmen, unless you prefer one of the works or art exhibited in the house! This is a very beautiful place, to visit even if you are not staying there overnight, to admire the works of art or, on Saturdays and Sundays, sip a drink in the tea
room set up in the house and the garden.
in Reugny (10 mn from Amboise, 25 minutes from Tours)
Isabelle and Myriam of Loire Wine Tours went to middle school together. After living in the South of France, Isabelle came back to the Loire Valley and decided to convert the barn of her grandparents' farm into a welcoming and comfortable holiday rental. Her passion for decoration helped her create a warm and cosy atmosphere in this little cocoon that can host up to 8 people. It is located near the village of Reugny - a village and area Myriam knows well as it is where her grandparents were farmers and winemakers - which is part of the area producing Vouvray wines. The opportunity for you to discover the wineries situated nearby and to meet Myriam, either in the vineyard or during an at-home wine-tasting, to be organised directly at Isabelle's place!
A campsite that is ideally located between Tours and Amboise, in the heart of the Loire Valley region and at a stone's throw from the vineyard and the wineries of Vouvray. A wide park will allow to stay in the shade with a tent, a trailer or a camper. The village's swimming-pool is situated 800 m from the campsite while the local shops (baker's, butcher's, charcuterie shop...) are located at the corner of the road. If you want to visit the city of Tours without bothering with parking you car, a bus leaves from outside the campsite about every hour and takes you directly to the city centre. A service area for campers is located just outside of the campsite.

in Nazelles-Négron (5 mn from Amboise)
This lovely house to rent is located in the park of the Château des Ormeaux. It has been nicely renovated by the owners of the castle who have managed to combine old style (the house is made of limestone) and modern decoration. Located just outside of the town of Amboise, this charming place has the advantage of being close to all the major attractions of the Loire Valley.

in Montlouis-sur-Loire (5 mn from Vouvray, 10 mn from Tours)

In the charming wine-growing hamlet of Husseau, between Montlouis-sur-Loire and Amboise, Lucie provides this "gîte" for 8 people, on the ground floor of her house. The separate entrance will allow you to be completely independent. An ideal location to discover the castles of the Loire Valley, the vineyards of Montlouis-sur-Loire and Vouvray and all the treasures abounding in the region.

A 4-star accomodation with a heated swimming pool, a sauna, a jacuzzi with a view on the vineyard and a meeting room. I can host up to 12 people. The owner, Mélanie, also offers à la carte massages. We have tested and enjoyed a very pleasant and relaxing moment in very a beautiful place.
in Véretz (10 mn from Tours)
The Cher river runs through a peaceful and quiet valley, chosen by the kings and the nobility to build beautiful castles, such as that of Véretz, located a few hundred metres from this accomodation. Guy Habert owns 3 'gîtes' located in an old tuffstone house that is typical of the region. Each entrance is independent from the owner's house. You will be able to talk about boats and sailing with Guy, who is a member of the Mariniers du Jean Bricau's association. In summer, he offers boat rides on river Cher - the port is situated at the end of the street - and, in partnership with Loire Wine Tours, rides including local wine and food tastings are scheduled in July and August.
This 3-starred campsite is located between Tours and Amboise, near the Loire river and opposite a lovely park where the locals enjoy coming to have a walk, go jogging or biking. You
can come with your tent, trailer or camper but there is also the possibility to rent comfortable mobil homes. While staying there, don't forget to visit the vineyard and wineries of
Montlouis-sur-Loire, a famous AOC that produces white still and sparking wines with Chenin Blanc, just like its neighbour Vouvray.

You will be welcomed by Nathalie Carli, the owner of this castle which was built between the 15th and the late 19th centuries. 4 rooms are available in the castle, and you also have the possibility to rent 3 family cottages hosting from 4 to 8 people. The 17-hectar park is for you to enjoy and relax. An outdoor swimming-pool, a billiards room and a barbecue are also available for the guests. Nathalie and her husband also own a vineyard, which means you will be able to taste their production and to discover the Loire Valley wines during your stay in this lovely property located at the heart of the Loire Valley.

In the city of Tours and its suburbs

This family hotel is located in an 18th-century limestone house, at the heart of the old quarter of Tours. 17 comfortable and air-conditioned rooms will allow you to enjoy city life during the day and in the evening. The hotel is located at a stone's throw from the famous 'Place Plumereau' - that the locals nickname Place Plum' and that was considered in 2012 as the nicest place in France to enjoy an 'apéro' (apéritif) by the Loney Planet guide. You will find a lot of restaurants and bars in the area, and if you feel like having a picnic, go to 'Les Halles', the covered market, which is just around the corner and where you will be able to buy all the specialties produced in the Loire Valley.

This hotel is located right in the city center, just around the corner of the train station. It is part of Tours's heritage, you will immediately understand why when entering the building. Nevertheless it was renovated a few years ago and offers all the comfort necessary for a relaxing stay, including an indoor swimming-pool and hammam. in Chédigny (between Amboise and Loches)
Chédigny is the only village in France that is listed as "Remarkable Garden". And for many good reasons ! Rosebushes, rhododendrons, wisteria and so on... have invaded the streets and adorn the facades of the typical houses of this small village located between Amboise and Loches which attracts hundreds of visitors every year. Definitely worth a visit !
