1936-2026: for the 90th anniversary of AOC Vouvray, come and join me on a winery and cellar tour to learn more about this appellation and the wines it produces. The morning will end with a tasting of various Vouvray wines served with local delicacies.
There are numerous rock-hewn cellars in the Loire Valley (in particular in the Touraine and Saumur regions), where the limestone - called tuffeau in the area - of the hillsides allows winemakers to dig themselves some cellars that provide exceptional storage conditions for the wines they produce.
The cellar you will visit was mostly dug by hand between the late 1970s and 1996 by the winemaker himself, Alain Robert. This cellar is a place of activity where, during your visit, you may
witness one of the winery's employee racking a vat or barrel, turning bottles on riddling racks or filling pallets with bottles. This wine tour will be the opportunity to learn more about the
family estate and about AOC Vouvray and the traditional method used to produce the appellation's sparkling wines. Did you know that they represent about two-thirds of the production in Vouvray,
but that this style of wine is not the only one produced by the AOC? And contrary to what this photo shows, Vouvray wines cannot be rosé. Do you know why? If not, I'll explain during the
tour!
Our cellar tour will be preceded by a quick visit to the winery, where grapes are pressed during the harvest and wines are made, and followed by a guided tasting of 5 Vouvray wines produced at
Vignoble Alain Robert: sparkling wines, as well as still wines, both dry and off-dry, and some very sweet wines, will be included!* They will be served with local delicacies - rillons (pork
belly confit) and other cold cuts, various regional cheeses... - to allow you to nibble during the tasting and to discover some local products.
* The wines served during the wine tasting may vary depending on the vintages available on the date of the tour.
